Trine Wejp-Olsen

ARTIST STATEMENT:

Mam curious about life at the brink of mythology. Ever since childhood I have enjoyed stories, and never given up on them. This is how my work has quite a sense of narration, with a narrative similar to what one might find in the stories of the fairy tales and myths.

In my practice as an artist, my attempt is to capture that other world , a parallel world that I find myself often looking for in our busy-logic lives, and as such the making of my paintings, drawings, and sculptures become a direct digestion of life around me.

Visually, I am interested in exploring the paint for what it can do; be dripping, be accidental, have precision, be thick and thin, transparent and opaque. The handling of the paint helps me access a world of free association, and allows my mind to pause.

When stepping back, the mysterious layers and symbolic meaning in the details catches my attention. A new day can bring a new conversation with the piece.

Beyond my own conversation and ideas about the work, my equally true goal for the pieces is to create something tangible, that the viewer can enjoy, and allow him or her to embark on their own journey.
