Maryam Amiryani

ARTIST STATEMENT

In this painting series, two themes emerged. Simply stated, what I look at and what I think about. What I look at is influenced by rural living. Plants are a great opportunity to study the Arabesque. Curves that refer to Persian calligraphy. What I think about involves using objects as metaphors for human behavior. The objects become participants in a minimalist theatre, trying to address my unanswered questions.

Maryam Amiryani was born in Shiraz, Iran in 1967. She emigrated with her family to Paris, France in 1978. Maryam currently lives in Marfa, Texas.
