lthough obviously representational, most of the recent multiple figure work grows without much planning from abstract geometrical underdrawings. The cakes are there because cakes are about the same size as human heads. In other work I’ve used flounder for the same reason. A tangle of triangles governs the angles of the bones of the upper and lower arms and legs of the fighting men. I just added flesh. The trees and sticks are pink because one sunrise last winter I opened my eyes to find that the rays coming over the church roof next door had turned all the leafless pecan trees in my backyard bright pink. The pink then strayed from the trees to the butt-cheeks and cakes.
